Snow ice cream is really easy to make and tastes better than store ice cream.
The most important rule of snow ice is to use clean snow. One time our Grandpa Utpadel told me and Mary to go get some snow from outside so we could make ice cream. We had never heard of such a thing! He gave us a great big metal bowl and told us to go get some clean snow. While we were out there, he mixed together milk, sugar and vanilla and put it in the freezer.
When we went outside, everything in the driveway and lawn of his house had footprints and dog prints in it so we started the search for pristine, untouched snow. And we we found some! We filled the bowl and trudged back to the house and brought it in.
When Grandpa asked us if it was clean, we said, "Yes. We got it from the pasture."
That got a lot of laughs and was told over and over to anyone who would listen. We didn't really know why that was funny because that was the cleanest place and we didn't go down deep to the grass and manure. That snow was deep and we didn't even get close to the snow touching the ground.
We watched him add the mixture that he had made into the snow, mix it all up and then put it into bowls. We had to eat it quickly because it melts FAST!
