Threading A Needle

 

I have seen videos about rubbing the end of a needle over some thread in the palm of your hand and it goes through the hole, but I am skeptical.

First, you must determine how much thread you will need and cut that much off the spool. You will probably guess wrong and it is better to be wrong by having too much left over than it is to run out too soon.

Lick one end of the thread to stick all the frayed ends together.

Very carefully push it through the eye of the needle. Pull it through and tie a knot in the end. When you are using a single strand be careful to not pull the needle off the thread when coming through the fabric. If you do, you will be starting this process over. 

If you are doubling your thread, there is an easy way to make the knot. Hold the needle in your right hand and the thread ends in your left and point them at each other. Hold the very ends of the thread against the middle of the needle with your right thumb and wind it around the needle about 4 times. Pinch that whole bunch and pull it up over the eye, and then down the length of the thread. VOILA! It makes a knot at the bottom with no tail that needs to be trimmed. 

Threading a needle can be tricky and it gets trickier when you get older and need glasses to see close up.
